Szabadság Square is just a few-minutes’ walk south east of the Hungarian Parliament which you can see in the background. Grandiose buildings of high architectural value flank the square: the art-nouveau National Bank, the US Embassy, the building of Hungarian Television. At the front of the pic is the Soviet War Memorial, which is surrounded by a nice park popular with dog-walkers and 2 playgrounds for kids. You can have lunch in the park sitting on a bench from spring until autumn, and there is also a cafe situated right in the centre of the park.

Saint Stephen’s Basilica is the largest Roman Catholic cathedral in Budapest, built in a classical style with a little taste of neo-renaissance. An elevator takes visitors up in the left tower, from where the Castle Hill and the Citadel are visible. The square in front of the cathedral is a beautiful area for foreignors and citizens with some cafés and benches to sit on.
Hotel Central Basilica, recently opened in front of the Basilica, is a cosy little hotel and convenient for the city centre.
